~Finn Whitman, Class of 2025
Some things are not worth crying about
Many years from now, you won’t remember the score of a sports game or your grade in math class. What you will remember are the memories you made and the experiences you gained. You need to focus on the experiences and lessons you create and learn with your friends, not the schools you got into or the grade you got. A few weeks ago, I went with my family and my town soccer team on a soccer trip to Ireland. Playing against Irish clubs, with kids who played soccer five hours a day, we never really had much chance of winning too many games. Even though the trip happened less than a month ago, I hardly remember the scores of the games or our record. What I do remember are the memories I made: scoring a goal against an Irish club with my friends, my friends and I being blown off our feet by the 70 mph winds, playing games on the bus rides, eating dinners with the other teams, and just enjoying our time in Ireland. This trip taught me to focus on the big things in life and not get hung up on the little things: the scores of games, the grades in classes, and the schools you got into. When you get stuck on something small, think about what you will remember in 10 years; if you won’t remember it, it’s not worth worrying about.
Focus on the big things in life.
If you don’t, you’re going to regret it.
Finn, that trip must have been so fun. Ireland is completely different from the US so it must’ve been so cool
This is great, Finn. The bang bang at the ned really hammered home your point, and greatly bolstered your paragraph. Great Job!
I love this Finn. It affected me greatly. The way you wrote this piece really made me think about how I live life. Your ending you provided capped off a great piece of writing with a bang!
