Fun>winning

Diamond dawg baseball. The greatest Fenn team in the history of the school. Our basketball team, and a few other kids. One week of the most fun I’ve ever had. For our first practice of the season all we did was scrimmage the entire practice and it was pretty clear who the best players were, but to be honest I don’t think being good at baseball was as important as how good of a humor you have. All you would hear all practice from that grass field across the street were smiles and laughter. We had some of the funniest kids in the entire school and coming to this practice everyday was so exciting.

This year we got new coaches and our returning players were very happy about this. Andy, Elijah, and I all were so happy when Mr Ryan told us that smitty was going to be our new coach instead of Mr Irwin. As I was heading out to the second practice some news got out that we were going to get even more of our friends that were playing different sports but saw how fun Diamond Dawg baseball was and wanted to come join. The first kid was Rex Hudson, Rex is one of my really good friends and after seeing how serious varsity was and wanted to come join us. After we had our first game Rex and I were going to be a dynamic duo at shortstop and third base. That entire game Rex and I weren’t really taking it seriously and just having the most fun we could have. Another great recruit had come to the team, after seeing that the lacrosse coaches were not liking him too much Buggy came and joined JV and ever since then our morale has been even higher.

That’s all the people we have got now but let me talk about our season. In our first scrimmage we played pike, a bunch of kids that would try really hard, we got destroyed like 11 to 3 but we all had a blast. Our second game we were supposed to play was Dedham Country Day.  Last year we actually beat them so we were optimistic that we might be able to get our first win of our season. All of us were hyped but right after lunch ended Smitty said that they had canceled on us so we would just have to practice instead. I think they were pretty scared of us and didn’t want to lose. That practice the rain was freezing and it was pouring, but nothing stops us from having fun. We went out to the slip and slide diamond and scrimmaged. In the bottom of the last inning we were down 3-1. Moochie hit a single then Kaden Ata hit a double off an error. So now we had 2nd and 3rd with Buggy Lyon up. Buggy gets to first base and now we have 1st and 3rd down by one. I went up to bat and hit a tank down the left side over the left fielder’s head. We tied the game but the buggy got thrown out at 3rd base. 3-3 with me and 2nd. James hit a sacrifice to right and I ran all the way to home and won us that game.

Our last game that we played was against shore and was a pretty hilarious game. In the first inning we were down 4-0. Wasn’t looking promising but from a few stolen bases we were only down by 2. We were down by 4 going into the last inning. 2 on base Buggy was up. He hit a bomb almost a home run and sent 2 runners home.

But in the end we couldn’t squeeze out the comeback but it was great progress for this insane experience. JV baseball will go down in fenn history for inspiring many people to play baseball.

We renamed the team and now every single person on the team will remember this insane season.
