~Bryce Nash, Class of 2025

Dear Gus,

It has been a tough year on the farm. Old Major gave us a speech. Old Major said, “Why, work night and day, body and soul, for the overthrow of the human race! That is my message to you, comrades: Rebellion!” (17). Old Major wanted us to rebel against Farmer Jones! After a couple of months, Old Major sadly passed away. We rebelled for Old Major, causing Farmer Jones to leave the farm. We have renamed the farm to Animal Farm. But Farmer Jones came back, armed. We were warned by the pigeons that Farmer Jones was coming. He brought men who were armed. The pigeons and geese were the first line of attack and did their job perfectly. Snowball was the second. Then we ambushed them in the cowshed. Farmer Jones retreated. We won the Battle of Cowshed. It meant so much that we had kept the farm so you could still visit.

As I told you earlier, Jones is gone from the farm. As animals, we now have complete control over the farm. We have a statement that we all follow, “Four legs, good, two legs, bad” (55). In the battle of Cowshed, we lost the sheep. We are thinking of making a memorial for them to give our condolences. Snowball and Napoleon were fighting for power. Snowball wants to build a windmill. Napoleon did not agree with him, so they fought about having a windmill. Snowball also wants to use firearms. We had a meeting about the windmill. During the meeting, Napoleon was chased out by dogs, “As this, there was a terrible baying sound outside, and nine enormous dogs came bounding into the barn. They dashed straight for Snowball. He sprang from his place just in time to escape their snapping jaws. In a moment he was out the door and they were after him” (84,85). We now all have to listen to Napoleon. For most animals life moves on, but for me I am sad because I liked Snowball. When Snowball was arguing with Napoleon my life was easier. Snowball is also so much nicer than Napoleon.

The more Napoleon is in control, the harder it will be for the rest of us. We have to do more work with no more fighting between Snowball and Napoleon. Napoleon wants to rebel against other farms now. We might be coming to your farm to rebel. I am a messenger from the ground. When the pigeons see danger, they alert me first so I can tell Napoleon. My role will be more difficult as we see more attacks from Jones. If you ever try to rebel against your farmer, use more planning. We just went for it and lucked out. If we did not win the Battle of Cowshed, Jones would still be here.

I advise you to stay away from trouble and come give me a visit.

I cannot wait to see you again.

Sincerely,

Donald Duck
