Surfing. Surfing is palm trees, blue skies, warm water, and best of all the waves! My dream was just coming to an end, surfing was the best thing about it. My dreams were filled with surfing every week! Though they could never become a reality. When the news came to me that Costa Rica was our vacation place to be, I was thrilled an ENORMOUS amount. After hearing that I suffered greatly as I wasn’t there yet.
When asking about Costa Rica, I’d only heard good things! The people were spectacular, especially the surf guides, the food was amazing, and the sun was everlasting there! These positive comments were brought to life when traveling there, the sun was almost too hot though. The main thing that mystified me about Costa Rica was the surfing! The trip was my first ever time surfing, and I know it won’t be the last. The surfing in Costa Rica is among the best on the planet. Second best to Nazare Portugal.
When on the plane, the announcements were in a different language. Then it hit me, all the time in the states made me forget about the Spanish speaking Costa Rican nation! I paid no attention to this though. After landing shakily on the runway, it was pitch black—well not really, all the cars and skyscraper lights lit up the sky. Not paying attention to Spanish came back to bite me though, as getting a taxi to bring us to our hotel became challenging. Google translate became our best friend when in Costa Rica. Google translate also proved crucial to checking in at the various hotels we’d be staying!
After enjoying an extremely luxurious hotel, WITH AN INFINITY POOL, we moved to our 3rd and last hotel, the 1st hotel being the airport hotel Hilton Inn. After a 5 hour long ride in a 103 degree SHUTTLE we arrived at…Lucero Surf Inn! Now the surfing journey starts. On Monday, we met our surf instructors, Daniel, and Isaac. Two very skilled surfers! Renowned by everyone in the town where our resort is, Santa Teresa. Also the best town on earth. (In my opinion).
After we introduced ourselves, we got into the water and surfed! As the week went on we went to bigger, and bigger waves. When in the small waves, we practiced standing up on the board. I practically mastered it over the span of the week. Now after the white waves, THE REAL FUN…GrEeN WaVeS! After paddling out with Isaac, my instructor, he was telling me how to look for the perfect wave. When…I found it. The biggest wave I had ever seen! It was above my head, double my height!!! I paddled and paddled and…it lifted me up! I was soaring over the waves, like an eagle doing ballet. It was incredible! The wave took me all the way to shore, where I was greatly congratulated on my amazing feat! Surfing is now my favorite hobby.
