~Samuel Dabora, Class of 2025

The last time I felt free was in Switzerland
I did not feel like I was a bird that was kept in a cage all day long.
Instead, I felt like an Eagle flying around in the open terrain.
I could leave the house whenever I wanted to,
And I could go anywhere.

I felt like I had so much space to breath and relax,
and I was never pressured to do anything.
And the community was very supportive and kind in general.

I skateboarded to school everyday
without having to worry about getting hit by a car
Sending me to the closest hospital within the blink of an eye
while crossing the bridge over the concord river.

I had enough recess time
to get the energy out of me
In order to get ready for class mode.

And I had the time to eat snack
so I wouldn’t fall asleep during
Religion class.

I had freedom to be
I had freedom to live
And I had freedom to do whatever I wanted
I had freedom when I lived in Switzerland.
