~Kannan K. Patel, Class of 2028

Get your glasses
find a spot
As the moon creeps
and covers
the sun

kids stare up in awe
at the moon
that is finally
bigger than the sun

drive to Vermont
into the path
of totality

Kids play tag and relay race
under the dark sun

sun handing over its place
in the sky
to the moon

the sun
getting its turn to be the crescent

Finally here in the northeast
humans
of all ages
 travel to see
 the amazing eclipse

temps drop
shadows fall
and darkness rises

missing last period
missing school
going out of the way
to see this wonder

At three twenty-nine
find a clear spot
to see the sun
drown in the void

Of space
