~Milo DuBois, Class of 2025
Waking a sleeping dragon should be scary
But my alarm clock has no fear.
Going off a time far too early
It howls like a wounded soldier
Leading to a bad start to any day
The snooze button turns into a twisted game of whack-a-mole
Each time reducing the time to get ready
Eight minutes may not seem like a lot
But it piles into a wall of bricks
Leading to rushed morning
Feeling annoyed and tired
Going through the same mindless process like a zombie
Eat breakfast, shower, get dressed, brush your teeth, and pack your bag
All while stumbling around like a drunken sailor
Expected to get to school on time
And to be prepared and engaged
Feeling like you got up mere seconds ago
Wondering how more than an hour has passed already
Wishing the hard, blue plastic of the chair would suddenly turn into a comfy pillow
Having to go to school
Having to do hours of homework
Having to practice a sports and an instrument
Having to find time to spend with friends
Having to still get the recommended 8-10 hours of sleep
Creates an awful mixture
Like a recipe for a stew
That turns an ugly shade of green and boils over the edge
Yet you drink it day after day
Wow Milo, this is great. I loved all of the personification that you used; it really brought this piece together and made it great. I loved when you wrote “All while stumbling around like a drunken soldier”. I also feel this way while rushing to get to school on time. Great job!
I feel very connected to this Milo. Always a rush to school
Milo, this was beautiful. You started it off with a bang! The metaphor you used was so powerful and it hooked the reader in perfectly.
