If you are ever stuck in the wilderness…
~Daniel Benjamin Singer, Class of 2029
If you are ever stuck in the wilderness it is very important to know how to build a structure that can withstand the natural elements such as wind, rain and animals. In this informational how-to on how-to build a structure that can withstand natural elements such as wind, rain and animals and the different types of structures and where you can build your structure of choice, let’s dive in!
The first step of building a survival structure is to find a place to build your wilderness house. The ideal place is a rock overhang that is held together with sand, mud or clay. be careful not to stand under it or on the ground above it as it may collapse. If there is no overhang, find a place with many trees that have thick, long branches. But if you don’t have either of those try to make a teepee held together with dry mud and sand or silt. After, put small branches with pine needles over the exciting branches.
If you are lucky enough to have an overhang here are the steps to building an overhang shelter. First place long thick sticks vertically then weave thin long thru each thick vertical branch, after that push small sticks with pine needles into all the gaps.
If there are big trees with large branches at least 5ft (1.524m) up from the ground, place large thick sticks in the branches but keep them at least 2.5ft (0.762m) from the trunk of the tree after lay long light branches vertically and rest them on the branches above.
Now add as many light mid sized branches as you can to the frame then cote the entire thing in leaves.
There you go, these are the different types of shelters to make, how to make them and where to make them.
