A Glimpse into the Bright Future
I believe that education is all about being excited about something. Seeing passion and enthusiasm helps push an educational message.

“Huh?” I turned my head to the right to look at Joe. “We’re starting the projects?”
“Yeah,” he answered. “I guess so.”
We first learned about the capstone projects over three months ago, but we only really got into them this week. My group—Joe Galante, Xavier Mercado, Hector Cruz, Jonas Ahlgren and I (a group that I was very, very satisfied with—worked to help the nonprofit organization Immigrant Family Services Institute (IFSI). IFSI helped Haitian refugees who moved to the US due to oppressive and unethical living conditions in Haiti. One of the issues they encountered was that many Haitian immigrants didn’t know how to apply for refugee status in the US, so our main project-focus was to make a website that could help tell them how to do it.
This week, we learned about how the timeline of our projects looked like, such as what we should do every week and when the final presentation will be. The two main things we did this week were write an email to Ms. Khan, our main contact and partner in IFSI, and create an infographic about IFSI and what UN sustainability goal it relates to.
The email was mostly written by me, as I wrote around 90% of it while everyone else in my group was either talking and joking or doing a bit of work to start the creation of the website. It was an email about what our group had done and about setting up an interview with Ms. Khan. Unfortunately, we sent it a bit late, and have not yet received a reply. I think it went pretty well, and the only thing that I would change would be everyone else focusing a bit more on our objectives while in class.
Joe absolutely carried the infographic, as we started working on it during our English/Social Studies period, when we’re all together, but we only finished all the research and a bit of the infographic before we needed to move on to the next class. The next class was Joe’s Biology block, a block that was dedicated to the capstone projects, and everyone else’s math block, a block that was not dedicated to the projects. This meant he needed to finish almost all of the infographic by putting all of the information in and formatting it. Thank god we have him!
Overall, this week sure went well, and mark my words: This is the start of an amazing project!
This is absolutely awesome, a captures the essence of what you are doing on this project and it shares the contributions of the other members. Makes me feel like you are a part of your project, which is what a reflection should do. Excellent work and thank you!
