Hello! My name is Ruben Lee and I worked on the project regarding the Undesirables in WWII. Our group mostly worked on everything together and went through this process closely connected. If I could describe working on the Holocaust unit in one word it would be realization. I was not aware, in detail, of the atrocities of the Holocaust, and delving deeper into the topic helped me understand how many people were hurt and killed. I truly believe that everyone should learn about this dark spot in the history of our world. Going through articles and primary sources helped me learn more and with the guidance of our teachers, I was ultimately able to grow as a global citizen alongside my role as a student.
Our group’s approach to this project was to work together on the skeleton of the different sections, but then rely on each other to fill out the body and the details of respective components. After our initial research phase, we all worked on the artifact to eventually get most of it done. Then we moved on to crafting the general story and script. At this step the base of our project was done, all we had to do was add details and revise. We worked till the very end to produce an exhibit that we were proud of. Everyone in our group worked hard together to present information that could help people understand the Holocaust more than they did before.
This project was the first major group project I had as a student. It was a profound experience in terms of the information I learned and the time I got to spend with my peers. Sharing information about a topic I didn’t know about was a big thought in my head as I approached this unit. However, with thorough research and citing testimonials, I became steadily more confident in my knowledge about the Holocaust. This entire process helped me grow in my research skills, group work, and empathy for others.
