The 2018-World Series champions the Boston Red Sox is one of, if not the best Boston teams in recent memory.  Led by first year manager Alex Cora, they reached a 108-54 record and won the World Series over the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 4-1 record series. Many big name players were on this team including: Mookie Betts, J.D Martinez, Xander Bogearts, and legendary second baseman Dustin Pedroia. With starting pitcher Chris Sale and closer Craig Kimbrel being stars on the mound.

This season set many franchise records, like setting the new highest wins by the Red Sox, and getting over 100 wins for the first time since 1946.  Right fielder Mookie Betts received the MLB batting title, with teammate J.D Martinez coming in second. Betts also received the Gold Glove award and got MVP that same year. Closer Craig Kimbrel became the fastest player in history to achieve 300 saves, finishing the season off with 333 saves.

In the postseason the Red Sox entered the playoffs as first seed in the American League. They destroyed their rivals, the New York Yankees in just four games in the divisional series. They then beat the defending champs, the Houston Astros in the Championship series, moving on to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers in just 5 games.

Unfortunately, the Red Sox have not been able to return to the playoffs since losing almost all of their star players in the next couple seasons. Mookie Betts was traded to the Dodgers in 2019. J.D Martinez just joined Betts in LA this season, as one of the Red Sox’s final trades before the trade deadline this summer. Craig Kimbrel was signed to the Philadelphia Phillies this offseason and reached the Divisional round against the Diamondbacks. Dustin Pedroia was injured in 2017 and ended his career in 2019 because of lingering issues. Xander Bogearts was traded to the San Diego Padres, Chris Sale is still with the Red Sox but has gotten older and hasn’t been as dominant as he has before.

The 2018 Boston Red Sox are regarded as one of the best teams in the 2010’s and will remain as that in the minds of all Red Sox fans while the Red Sox rebuild their franchise.
